Privacy Policy
Blue Water Intelligence (“the app”) is an ocean conditions and fishing forecast tool operated by Blue Water Intelligence LLC, a Florida limited liability company (“we”). This policy explains what the app does and does not do with information. It is written to describe the app’s actual behaviour rather than to reserve rights we do not use.
In short: creating an account is required to use the app, including the free tier. An account means an email address and a subscription status — nothing more. The app does not use advertising, does not use analytics or tracking of any kind, and does not sell or share your information. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Optional AI features send forecast conditions, nearby port names and catch-log summaries (never your identity) to Anthropic, and only after you allow it. What you save in the app — points, catches, forecast history, your home port and preferences — is kept on your device and synced to your account, so it carries over to another device.
Accounts and subscriptions
Creating an account is required to use the app, including the free tier, and requires an email address and a password. We store your email address and your current subscription status (free, premium, or pro) using Supabase, a database and authentication provider. We do not store your password ourselves — Supabase handles that using industry-standard hashing, and we never see the plain password.
Paid subscriptions are currently offered in the United States only. They are billed and managed by Stripe, not through Apple In-App Purchase. When you subscribe or manage billing, you are taken to a payment page hosted directly by Stripe — your card number and billing details go to Stripe, not to us. We receive back only a customer reference and your subscription status, which we store so the app knows which features to unlock. We do not receive or store your card number, expiration date, or CVC at any point.
You can cancel a subscription at any time from Manage Subscription in the app, which opens Stripe’s own billing portal. You can delete your account entirely at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account, which cancels any active subscription and permanently removes your account record, including your email address, subscription history, and the synced data described below, from our systems.
Information stored on your device — and synced to your account
Because an account is required to use the app, the following is both saved locally in your browser or app storage and synced to our servers under your account, so it carries over if you use the app on another device:
- Saved points — coordinates, names, and notes for locations you choose to save.
- Catches you log — species, bait, lure color, notes, depth, coordinates, and the date and time of the catch, plus the ocean conditions (temperature, clarity, currents, pressure, and similar) we look up for that place and time.
- Home port — a coordinate you optionally set, used to show distance from it.
- Forecast history — results of forecasts you have run, kept so you can review and export them.
- Preferences — units, coordinate format, and forecast settings.
The local copy on your device acts as a cache — it lets the app show your data instantly and keep working if you briefly lose signal — while the copy on our servers, tied to your account, is what makes it available again if you sign in on a different phone or reinstall the app.
You can remove locally stored data at any time by deleting saved points within the app, or by clearing the app’s storage through your device or browser settings. Removing the synced copy requires deleting it in the app while signed in, or deleting your account entirely from Settings → Account → Delete Account, which also removes it from our servers.
Location
If you use the “locate me” feature, the app asks your device for your position and uses it only to show where you are on the map. Your position is not sent to us and is not stored.
The “Use My Location” button when logging a catch also asks your device for your position, but works differently: that position becomes the catch's own coordinates, which are stored and (if you are signed in) synced exactly like any other part of a catch you log — the same as if you had tapped the location on the map yourself. See “Information stored on your device” and “Information sent to servers” above and below for what happens to a catch's coordinates.
Either way, the app requests location only when you use one of these features, and you can decline or revoke the permission at any time in your device settings; everything else in the app continues to work.
Information sent to servers
To show ocean data and produce a forecast, the app sends the map coordinates you are looking at — a latitude and longitude area — to our service, which requests the corresponding data from public government sources and returns the result. Depth and tide lookups, and looking up conditions for a catch you log (its coordinates and date/time), send a coordinate in the same way.
These coordinates describe an area of ocean, not you. However, if you centre the map on your own position and then run a forecast, or log a catch at your current location, that request will contain coordinates near where you are.
AI features (Anthropic)
Three optional features are written by Claude, an AI model provided by Anthropic. The first time one of them would run, the app asks whether you want to use AI features and sends nothing to Anthropic unless you choose Allow. You can turn them off again at any time in Settings → Forecast → AI features; the forecast itself, the maps, and your catch log work fully without them.
- Analyst’s read (forecast summary) — the area you forecast, the top spots’ coordinates and scores, and the ocean-condition readings behind them (temperature, currents, chlorophyll, clarity, weather, tides, and similar).
- Local fishing reports — the app sends the centre of your forecast area to our server, which picks the nearest fishing ports from a fixed list. Only those port names are sent to Anthropic, which searches the public web for recent fishing reports and returns a short summary. Search queries made this way contain the port name, not you. Results are cached on our servers by port (not by user) for a few hours so repeat forecasts get the same answer.
- Catch analysis — a summary of the catches matching the filters you chose: counts by species, lure, lure colour and lure/colour combination, how catches group by depth, time of day, temperature and other conditions, and averaged ocean conditions. It does not include individual catch coordinates, your notes, your email address, or other account details.
None of these requests include your name, email address, account details, or device location. Anthropic processes them to return the text and, under its commercial terms, does not use them to train its models. AI-written text can be wrong; treat it as an interpretation, not a fact.
If you are signed in, requests for Premium and Pro features include a token that identifies your account, so our servers can confirm your subscription covers the feature you are using. This token is tied to your account, not otherwise linked to your activity for any other purpose.
Requests are handled by our hosting provider, which may keep short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) as a normal part of operating and protecting a web service. We do not use those logs to build a profile of you beyond what is described in this policy.
How long information is kept
- Your account and synced data are kept while your account exists, and deleted when you delete your account.
- Forecast results. A forecast runs as a short background job, and its result is stored on our servers so the app can collect it. Results older than an hour are removed the next time you run a forecast, and all of them are removed when you delete your account.
- Fishing-report summaries are cached by port, not by person, for a few hours.
- Billing records. Stripe keeps payment and invoice records for as long as tax and financial laws require, even after your account is deleted.
- Server logs kept by our hosting provider are short-lived.
Your choices
- Delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This cancels any active subscription and removes your account and synced data.
- Turn AI features on or off in Settings → Forecast → AI features.
- Allow or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
- Ask us for a copy of the information tied to your account, or to correct or delete it, by emailing support@bluewater-intelligence.com.
Third-party services
The services below receive requests as a normal part of the app working. Each has its own privacy practices, which we do not control.
- Supabase — stores your account (email address and subscription status) and the data that syncs to it: saved points, catches, forecast history and preferences.
- Stripe — handles subscription billing and payment. Stripe receives your card details directly; we do not. Stripe also receives your account’s email address, so receipts and the billing portal match your account.
- Google Workspace — sends account emails (sign-up confirmations and password resets) from support@bluewater-intelligence.com, and receives the messages you send us there.
- Anthropic — generates the optional AI features (forecast summary, fishing-report search, and catch analysis) only if you allow them, as described above.
- NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) — sea surface temperature, chlorophyll, altimetry, currents, wind, nautical charts, tides, and weather.
- NASA — satellite true-colour imagery.
- GEBCO (British Oceanographic Data Centre) — the depth-shading map layer, where selected.
- CARTO and OpenStreetMap — base map and land rendering.
- Cloudflare (cdnjs) and jsDelivr — the mapping and utility libraries the app runs on.
- Google Fonts — typefaces used by the interface. This means Google receives your IP address when fonts are loaded.
- Netlify — hosting and the server-side functions that fetch ocean data.
When your device requests map imagery or ocean data directly from a provider above, it necessarily shares your IP address and the map area requested, as any web request does.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, telemetry, or usage-tracking software of any kind.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your information with data brokers or advertisers.
- No access to your card number, expiration date, or CVC — that goes directly to Stripe.
Children
The app is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. Creating an account requires an email address, and the app does not knowingly collect personal information, including accounts, from children under 13.
Safety note
Forecasts and ocean data in this app are informational and derived from public sources that may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. The app is not a navigation system and must not be relied upon for navigation or safety of life at sea. Always use official charts, check the official marine forecast, carry current safety equipment, and make your own decisions about conditions on the water. Forecasts show where conditions look favorable; they can’t guarantee that you’ll find or catch fish. See the Terms of Use for more.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised.
